Produced and distributed by RAW Productions, the world premiere of the Same But Different: A True New Zealand Love Story world premiere took place at the grand Civic Theatre in central Auckland, New Zealand. Cast, crew and fans walked the red carpet and packed into the historic theatre with pre-film entertainment by the Modern Māori Quartet and Helen Corry, who both feature on the film's soundtrack. Helen Corry later performed her love track, "Hardly Breathe" which she produced exclusively for SBD.

After the film, the filmmakers Nikki Si'ulepa and Rachel Aneta Wills and the core cast took the stage to an overwhelming ovation and spoke about the film's journey from conception to the big screen.

SBD had it's Australian premiere at Event Cinema, George Street to a sold out audience. Filmmakers, Nikki Si'ulepa & Rachel Aneta Wills attended with actor, Hannah Martin who plays Nikki and spoke about the film and their journey in a special Q&A after the screening.
